‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Star Cheryl Hines Told Husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. That He Can’t Speak To Steve Bannon Or Alex Jones
Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines has been married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. since 2014. She’s on her second marriage, while Kennedy is already on his third.
Recently, the couple did a photo shoot for The Hollywood Reporter alongside Conor Kennedy and Kyra Kennedy, who are Kennedy’s children from his second marriage to Mary Richardson Kennedy. They had two other sons, Finn Kennedy and Aiden Kennedy, who died by suicide in 2012.
The blended family also included Hines’ daughter, Catherine Young.
Hines and Kennedy first met in 2004 at a celebrity ski fundraiser for Waterkeeper Alliance, which Kennedy funded. Before their divorces, the two families traveled and skied together.
In one instance, Hines and her ex, Curb star and creator Larry David, attended an event with no intention of skiing, but Kennedy urged them to join.
They continued to run in the same circles, seeing each other about once a year until 2010, when they were both going through a divorce.
Kennedy then asked Hines to come to that year’s ski fundraiser, and she said yes.
Hines said, “Something clicked,” when she saw him again, “I saw him through different eyes. It was like, ‘Oh, you’re handsome.'”
Kennedy said that as soon as he saw her, he was “smitten.” He even asked David for permission to start dating her.
“He said he was so excited about it,” Kennedy recalled. David had said that Hines was “the best person” he’s met and she’s “the only one in Hollywood who doesn’t have a single enemy.”
When Hines discussed possibly dating Kennedy with David, her ex-husband told her, “It’ll never work.”
They began officially dating shortly after. They would spend every few months on a ski slope or a tropical island.
They later got married in 2014.
The 70-year-old politician is now an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
His siblings, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, former Rep. Joseph Kennedy, Rory Kennedy, and Kerry Kennedy, have called him “dangerous” for the United States.
They said he “might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment.”
His cousin, Caroline Kennedy, and her son, Jack Schlossberg, have called his candidacy “an embarrassment.”
Hines said her husband has “no hard feelings” toward his family.
“He knows that at the end of the day, this is hard for them — for lots of reasons,” Hines said. “They didn’t ask for it. But just by being related to him, they are involved. I think that’s challenging for people.”
Kennedy said he sees his family “all the time” and was raised to “passionately agree” with them. Despite this, he claims many support his campaign and only a “small number that has criticized” him.
Despite controversies over calling the Covid-19 vaccine “the deadliest vaccine ever made,” he is polling high, with one in five Americans willing to vote for him.
Kennedy also publicly suspected the CIA of being involved in the assassinations of his uncle, John F. Kennedy, and his father, Robert F. Kennedy.
Hines’ husband’s public antics have stressed her social standing in liberal Hollywood. Despite this, the couple remains committed to each other, even in the White House.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hines was asked, “Did it ever occur to you that your partner may have a predilection toward conspiracies?”
“That never occurred to me,” she said. “At the same time, I often think about what his life has been like — to watch his uncle be assassinated and then watch his father be assassinated. I do find it mysterious and odd, and all of it to be larger-than-life.”
Later in the interview, she questions the characterization of conspiracy theorists.
The reporter then asked her how Kennedy reshaped her thinking.
Hines said, “If you were an attorney, maybe you would see certain things before other people do. My mind might not go there. I don’t automatically think, ‘Oh, there’s poison in the baby food — people must have gotten together to do it.’ But there is poison in the baby food. There’s arsenic in the baby food.”
“I guess maybe I have changed,” she concluded.
She does claim to set firm boundaries and forbids him from speaking to far-right agitators Steve Bannon and Alex Jones.
She also got upset with him when he made comments about Nazi Germany. She publicly apologized for his remarks and said they were “not a reflection” of her own.”
Kennedy claims the words were taken out of context.
The incident and others like it caused friction between the two of them.
Hines recently debuted as a potential first lady, introducing her husband at an October 9 campaign” rally in Philadelphia. There, she portrayed “her husband as someone who looks out for the “little guy.”
That is the same day David announced the 12th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which will be the series final one.
Hines was a part of the show before she left in the sixth season when she was done with her ex-husband’s antics.
According to current polls, Kennedy may affect the election by drawing votes from Democratic and Republican candidates.
Hines points out that her husband has support from different groups, including Republicans, Democrats and independents. She thinks he is likelier to take votes from Trump than Biden. He has drawn most of his financial support from a right-wing billionaire, leading many Democrats to say he will help throw the race for Trump.
Regardless of the political outcome, Hines plans to continue her career in television and film. The family has turned down offers to make a documentary about their political journey. Hines has been attending Hollywood events and showing off her comedic side.
Hines was asked if she wanted to be the first lady.
“If you’re asking me, ‘Has this been my dream, to be first lady?’ I would say, ‘No.’ But if someone said to me: ‘Guess what? You’re going to be first lady tomorrow,’ I would say, ‘Great. Let’s do it. I can’t wait to see what this looks like.’ When I look at it like that, I think, ‘Wow, what an extraordinary situation.’ And if that’s what life hands you, then you accept it and experience it for everything it has to offer.”
