February 20 would have been late rock star and front-man of Nirvana Kurt Cobain‘s birthday. The late musician, who committed suicide in 1994, would have been 53. The occasion has many who enjoyed his music to reminisce on Cobain, including two people who were close to the rock star. Courtney Love, Cobain’s wife at the time of his suicide, and Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Cobain and Love, posted tributes to the deceased musician on their Instagram accounts.

Love, who was the singer and guitarist for the band Hole, posted a photo of her late former husband on her Instagram page.

The photo is black-and-white, and shows Cobain playing an acoustic guitar while he appears lost in thought. No caption accompanied the photo, but because the photo was posted on what would have been Cobain’s birthday, its intent to honor the legacy of the Nirvana front-man was not lost for those on Instagram. Most of the comments under the picture were emoji hearts, with some users sharing their thoughts on the tribute. “❤️♥️♥️♥️ gone but never forgotten ♥️♥️♥️♥️,” wrote one user. “He’s always with you court!!❤️,” wrote another.

On the same day, Frances Bean poster her own tribute to Cobain. The model and artist posted a different black-and-white photo to her Instagram story, one which showed Cobain holding her up as an infant. Cobain committed suicide in 1994 at the age of 27, when Frances Bean was less than two years old. Along with the photo were the emojis for a green heart and a dove. This is not the first time Frances Bean has posted a tribute to her father on what would have been his birthday. In 2017, she posted to Instagram a touching note she wrote to her father on what would have been his 50th birthday, and the year after that, she posted another tribute to her father. In the 2017 note, she wrote, “You are loved and you are missed.”
