On Tuesday, Twitter announced that it had permanently suspended conspiracy theorist Jacob Wohl’s Twitter account for “multiple violations” of its rules, including creating and running numerous fake accounts.
“The account was suspended for multiple violations of the Twitter Rules, specifically creating and operating fake accounts,” the Twitter announcement read.
Of the accounts that Wohl operated, included @Women_4_Schultz, which posed as a supporter of former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. He also operated two other banned Twitter accounts, according to a source who was not able to speak publicly.
Last year in October, Wohl became the center of controversy after claiming that he had proof through “an intelligence firm” that Special Counsel head Robert Mueller had sexually assaulted an unnamed woman. But the alleged intelligence firm was quickly found to be a phone number registered to his mother, while the intelligence firm’s document attempting to prove the allegations consisted of inaccuracies.
The scheme also relied on 34-year-old Carolyne Cass, who accused Mueller of sexual assault, but the story fell apart after she didn’t appear at a press conference that Wohl had arranged on November 1. Cass later told USA Today that she was tricked into taking part in Wohl’s plan, which is being investigated by the FBI.
On Tuesday evening. Wohl admitted to operating @Women_4_Schultz.
“This is par for the course. We were just talking about how this was probably going to happen,” Wohl, who initially said that he did not create the account, said.
“Thank you for reminding me,” he said. “I tweeted at it to be goofy, but it’s not a fake account. I was tweeting about women’s issues that Schultz happens to be good on.”
A USA Today article noted that Wohl said that he had planned to create fake Twitter and Facebook profiles in order to “steer the left-wing votes in the primaries to what we feel are weaker candidates compared with Trump.”
“It is not illegal, unethical, or untoward for Americans to steer an American election,” he told NBC News during a phone call. “I’m an American.”
“In my entire adult life, I’ve had three Twitter accounts,” Wohl continued, in reference to his main @JacobAWohl, an account for his private investigation company, and a third unnamed account that he was planning to launch.
Wohl’s @Women_4_Schultz twitter account mostly consisted of videos from Schultz and other talking points that Schultz hadn’t spoken on. At the beginning of the month, the account had a minor viral moment after Wohl tweeted false talking points about the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“Kamala Harris does not represent American Women. Unlike Howard Schultz (who is 100% self-made) she traded sexual favors for public office!” the tweet read, which received hundreds of retweets and likes.
