Comedian Kathy Griffin Celebrates Donald Trump’s Conviction In Hush Money Trial: ‘Tears Of Joy’

After former President Donald Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts, comedian Kathy Griffin, known as his longtime opponent, reacted with a joyous response.

Griffin, who has had a tumultuous history with the former president, took to social media to express her unbridled elation. In a post to X, the comedian exclaimed, “Tears of joy.” 

Griffin was responding to a post from an X user who had written that the comedian was “targeted” by Trump, who is “finally getting in trouble for his mobster antics.”

“Thank you for saying that,” Griffin wrote. “It was awful, and he is awful. TEARS OF JOY.” 

The conviction comes after Griffin’s experience with the Trump administration in 2017 when the comedian faced widespread backlash for her controversial photo shoot, which depicted her holding a prop that resembled a decapitated Trump head. The incident led to a cascade of consequences, which included death threats, the loss of professional opportunities and a sense of professional and personal devastation.

Griffin initially issued an apology video in which she said, “I sincerely apologize. I’m a comic. I crossed the line … I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people; I get it.”

However, three months later, Griffin appeared on an Australian talk show and declared, “I am no longer sorry. The whole outrage was B.S.; the whole thing got so blown out of proportion.”

With Trump’s conviction, Griffin’s sense of vindication is palpable. In her social media posts, she has expressed her shock and awe at the criminal justice system’s triumph, underscoring the importance of accountability and the rule of law.

The verdict marks a significant milestone in the ongoing saga of Trump, who faces three more criminal trials in other jurisdictions. 

In 2018, Griffin spoke exclusively to uInterview about the episode. “Trump’s not doing a lot of president-ing, if you notice,” Griffin told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I feel like this is the sort of thing [investigating] that he would be happy to spend a couple of hours of his day doing.”

She reflected on dealing with the FBI while touring internationally with her Laugh Your Head Off World Tour. “Every president has been parodied in every possible way, so the fact that they took it so far—when I went overseas and played 15 different countries and 23 cities, I was detained at every airport because I’m still on the Interpol list,” she said.
