Colin Farrell Reportedly Checks Himself Back Into Rehab As A “Preventive Measure”

Irish actor Colin Farrell, 41, has reportedly checked himself into a rehab as a “preventive measure.”

A source told the Daily Mail Farrell was “overwhelmed” by the busy year of back-to-back filming and began getting the “urge” to use again.

“We all know that Colin is an addict, he’s had 12 years of sobriety,” the source said. “He was overwhelmed for the past year and the urges started to come back with being so busy at work and he felt, eventually, out of control and thought maybe he should get ahead of it before he starts using again.”

 

The father of two checked into the $36,000-a-month Meadows Clinic in Wickenberg, Arizona. Farrell first went into rehab in 2005 after filming Miami Vice for exhaustion and dependency on prescription medication. While they were filming, Farrell said he was in a haze and couldn’t remember what happened by the time of the premiere. Once filming had ended, he checked himself into a rehab. He told the Mirror in 2013, “The second it was finished I was put on a plane and sent to rehab as everyone else was going to the party.”

In 2008 on Jonathan Ross, Farrell talked about his time in rehab and long battle of alcohol and drugs. “I went somewhere for five to six weeks and that was a very safe environment, and I began to come out of the haze that I was in and that I had buried myself into so deeply.” Then, he began to see something new to him. “Everything was just in a degree of focus that I hadn’t experienced … basically I’d been drunk or high since I was 14. I was very drunk or high for about 16 years, it was a tough life change. But I was dying, I’m one of the lucky ones.”

In 2017, Farrell appeared on the Ellen Show to celebrate 10 years of sobriety. He said that he was “out of control” for many years. The source said Farrell was “so hyper aware” of his addiction he felt like “he could very easily start using again,” something he did not want to do. “He didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole again.”
