The Crown stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith attended the world premiere of the series’ second season in London on Tuesday.

THE CROWN SEASON 2 PREMIERE

This will be the last time the pair walk the red carpet together as royals, as the third season will start with a significant time jump. Foy’s character, Queen Elizabeth II, has already been re-cast for season three as Olivia Colman. Smith’s character, Prince Philip, is still under debate.

“We had a wonderful time — we’re into the ’60s and there are some interesting storylines,” Smith said at the premiere. “You think you know the story, but you actually don’t know the story. Season two is a difficult watch on some level because it touches on some difficult scenes for the family,” he continued. “We’ve got the ’60s, we’ve got Princess Margaret on a motorbike, some troubles in their marriage — which they’re trying to get through — we’ve got a young Prince Philip and we learn about his story in his youth, which is compelling.”

Vanessa Kirby, who plays Princess Margaret, was also on the red carpet with the main stars. Her dress and Foy’s were very similar, with sequins of silver, gold, and pink over black fabric. Billy Jenkins, who plays a very young Prince Charles, was also in attendance, and donned a smart blue suit.

Season 2 of The Crown will be available to stream on Netflix on Dec. 8.
