Christina Aguilera admitted she was torn about filing for divorce from music executive Jordan Bratman, her husband of five years.

"Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it," the singer, 29, told People. "I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up."

Aguilera decided that, ultimately, ending the marriage was the best thing for her two-year-old son, Max. As a product of divorce herself, the Grammy winner said she knew how a fractious relationship between parents can harm a child. "When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That's the last thing I wanted for my son."

Since filing for divorce in mid-October, Aguilera has been seen with set assistant, Matthew Rutler, whom she met while working on her new movie, Burlesque. "He's the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight," she gushed.

She has received generally positive reviews for her first acting role, as a wide-eyed ingenue trying to make it in showbiz in Burlesque. –ISHITA SINGH
