Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell have been charged with three counts first-degree murder. The mother and stepfather were indicted for the deaths of Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16.

The couple was also charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder after Daybell’s ex-wife Tammy Daybell was also found dead in her home at approximately the same time the children went missing.

Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake said on Tuesday that they “have cause to believe that the Daybells willfully and knowingly conspired to commit murder of three innocent people.”

While on her honeymoon with her husband, Vallow Daybell was arrested in Hawaii. The stepfather was taken into custody in June 2020, after the remains of his step-children were found in his backyard in Idaho.

Tammy’s obituary claimed she had died of natural causes, but authorities became suspicious when two weeks later, Chad Daybell married Lori Vallow. Tammy’s body was exhumed in December 2019 to investigate whether her cause of death was accurate.

Rexburg Police said Vallow’s head was covered in a plastic bag and duct tape. Ryan’s body appeared to have been burned.
