Caroline Pla, 11-Year-Old Girl, Will Play Football Again

Caroline Pla, an 11-year-old girl from Doyelstown, Pa., who was originally banned from playing football by the Catholic Youth Organization, was granted the right to once again take up her favorite sport, ABC News reports.

"At the direction of the Archbishop, the Archdiocese will allow for co-ed participation in CYO football, effective in the 2013 season," read a statement by the Archbishop's office. "This approval is provisional. The decision will be reviewed and revised in the coming several seasons, as judged appropriate by the Archdiocese."

After Pla was initially kicked off her team, she put together a petition that garnered more than 100,000 signatures, and she even appeared on Ellen during her battle to play again.

At first Caroline's efforts were not terribly persuasive to the Archbishop Charles Chaput.

"I'm perplexed that you would contact me last, after publicizing your situation in both the national and regional media," Chaput responded in an email to Pla, according to ABC News. "That kind of approach has no effect on my decision-making. CYO rules exist for good reason."

But fortunately the Archdiocese eventually agreed to change the rule. With Pla's ban, which stemmed from an anonymous complaint, now overturned, she can get back on the gridiron, where she plays as an offensive lineman. —Hal Sundt
