After a long legal battle stemming from videos first posted in 2018, rapper Cardi B is walking away from her libel trial against gossip blogger Tasha K victorious. A federal jury found the blogger, whose real name is Latasha Kebe, liable on two counts of slander, and one count each of libel and invasion of privacy.
Kebe was first sued in 2019 after she posted around 20 videos that claimed the “Bodak Yellow” rapper was a prostitute, had herpes and used cocaine, on her YouTube channel “unWinewithTashaK.” The rapper’s legal team called the accusations “malicious rumors” at the time they filed suit, and Cardi later added in court that she “felt extremely suicidal” after seeing the videos.
Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, has been awarded a total of $4 million in separate verdicts, part of which will cover legal fees and medical expenses accrued over the suit.
Kebe tweeted on Monday, simply saying “My Husband, Attorney’s, & I fought really hard. I want to thank them for their long hours and sleepless nights.” She promised a return, and in a later tweet said she would be making an official statement about the trial Wednesday evening.
Almanzar also has pending legal action against Starmarie Ebony Jones, who appeared on Kebe’s channel claiming to be a friend of Almanzar. Jones was listed in the first lawsuit but was not named in this verdict because she moved out of Georgia where it was first filed. The rapper’s lawyer’s filed a separate suit in Jones’ new state of residence, New York, and she has since also been found liable of slander, libel and invasion of privacy as well.
