Cardi and Offset both seek to keep an element of privacy in their lives; both musicians got engaged and married to each other last year, which came as a sudden surprise to their fans.

It was widely speculated the couple was expecting a baby earlier this year, although the pair initially denied such allegations, with Cardi asserting she was “just getting fat.” However, she couldn’t keep the secret forever, and she confirmed she was pregnant by showing her baby bump while performing on Saturday Night Live back in April.

In the following months, Cardi did open up about her forthcoming child, confirming on The Howard Stern Show and to The New York Times that she’s expecting a girl. Cardi also acknowledged on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in May that Offset provided the name for their daughter. “My dude named the baby,” she expressed. “I really like the name.”

In an April interview with The Breakfast Club, Cardi opened up about how much it “disgusts” her that women make comments claiming her career will end with the birth of her child. “It just really bothers me and it disgusts me because I see a lot of women online like, ‘Oh, I feel sorry for you, oh, your career is over,’” Cardi explained. “As a woman, why can’t I have both? Why do I gotta choose a career or a baby? Like, why can’t I have both? I want both.” Cardi also admitted that she “kinda, sorta” considered aborting her baby, but decided against it as she “just didn’t want to deal with the whole abortion thing.”
