Cardi B filed for a divorce with her husband Offset on Tuesday, ending an on-again off-again pattern that began after allegations that he had been cheating. She said that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”

The couple eloped in 2017, only publicly announcing their marriage and Cardi’s pregnancy in 2018. Later that year, rumors that Offset had been cheating began, and they split.

Offset then tried to win his wife back by apologizing on Instagram, then appearing onstage at one of Cardi’s concerts with a sign that said, “Take me back Cardi.”

This likely wasn’t the first time Offest had tried to get Cardi bacj – just months before their December 2018 split, Offset threw her an incredibly lavish surprise birthday party, complete with expensive gifts of jewelry and roses.

Following the split, other celebrities and friends of Offset including 21 Savage, 50 Cent and T.I. also publicly encouraged Cardi to forgive her ex.

Cardi ultimately did forgive Offset, and the pair got back together despite concerned fans’ claims that Offset’s demands were a form of manipulation and emotional abuse. Cardi even made a post to celebrate their two-year anniversary in 2019, her caption hinting that the two had moved past their issues.

Now, however, according to legal documents the two are living in a “bona fide state of separation,” with “no prospects for a reconciliation,” and Cardi hopes to split their assets evenly and gain complete physical custody of their two-year-old daughter Kulture, with Offset contributing for “support and maintenance” alone. According to TMZ, however, Cardi plans to amend the documents to give she and Offset split custody and with no child support from Offset – she wants their split to be friendly.

Cardi and Offset have yet to post about the divorce on social media, and Offset has yet to respond to the divorce petition entirely.
