Cameron Boyce’s Cause Of Death Revealed: Epilepsy

Disney Channel star Cameron Boyce was pronounced dead on July 6.

Boyce’s family said in a statement to People Tuesday night that the “tragic passing was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was epilepsy.”

“We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart-wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make agreements for his funeral – which in and of itself, is agonizing,” said the family.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that is marked by recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance. The term also means “seizure disorders.”

An autopsy was performed on Monday but the cause of death had not been determined yet.

“An autopsy was performed today and a cause of death was deferred pending further investigation,” the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner announced on Monday.

The actor was “found unresponsive in his home” on Saturday afternoon and pronounced dead on the scene after authorities were called.

Debby Ryan, Boyce’s former co-star on the Disney Channel show Jessie, paid tribute to Boyce on Instagram Sunday night. She shared a video of him, which was a clip taken from his acceptance speech at the 2018 Thirst Gala for the Pioneering Spirit Award.

“It’s crazy, we can tweet whenever we want and we can use social media and Instagram and make the world a better place,” Boyce said in the clip. “Instead of a worse one, which so many people use it for.”

Boyce was a longtime advocate for the non-profit organization, which raises awareness about the global water crisis.

Ryan has also posted a clip on Instagram, back when the two of them were on Jessie. The short clip shows Boyce and Ryan hugging.

Boyce’s father, Victor Boyce, went to Twitter to break his silence on his son’s death.

“I’m overwhelmed with the love and support our family has received,” wrote Victor. “I can’t thank you guys enough.”

A Disney Channel spokesperson also made a statement about the young actor.

“From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world,” said the spokesperson. “As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples’ lives through his humanitarian work.”

“He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson, and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, castmates, and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed.”

Disney has also released a statement, calling Boyce a “remarkably caring and thoughtful person.”
