Caitriona Balfe & Sam Heughan’s ‘Outlander’ Chemistry Test Shows Real Passion [VIDEO]

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s original chemistry test when they read together for the first time in person is available to watch on Outlander: Season Three collector’s edition.

Outlander, the British-American T.V series, is based on the best selling novels Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. The plot of the series follows Balfe’s character, Claire Randall. She is falling in love with Heughan’s character Jamie Fraser while she is still married to Tobias Menzies‘s character Frank Randall.

The on-screen heat between Claire and Jamie had to be just right for the production. Before they cast Balfe for the role, they had to make sure the chemistry would be evident on screen. Outlander’s executive producer Ronald D. Moore said, “We were looking for chemistry between the two characters. We really felt that Cat was probably going to be the one, but this was the final moment. This was literally when she sealed the deal and got the show. And as you can see, they’ve already got the shorthand of their characters and there is definitely on-camera chemistry between the two.”

Outlander: Season Three collector’s edition includes deleted scenes, gag reels and behind the scenes features. It will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on April 10 but pre-orders are available on Amazon.
