Britney Spears’ Father, Jamie Spears, Seen For First Time In A Wheelchair After Settling Legal Dispute With His Daughter
Britney Spears‘ amputee father, Jamie Spears, was spotted for the first time after settling their years-long legal dispute over Britney’s conservatorship. In 2008, the pop star was involuntarily placed in a conservatorship by her father with the consent of a judge.
The conservatorship, meant to last only days, was extended until November 2021, adding up to 13 years. The situation sparked a major controversy, with fans starting a social media movement dubbed “#FreeBritney.” After the conservatorship ended, Britney spoke about the alleged abuse she faced from her family and became a symbol of the human rights movement. Britney’s career was also intensely examined, with fans investigating how the media warped her public image as a teen pop star.
The legal dispute between Britney and her father wasn’t settled until May 2024, two years after the conservation was terminated.
Photographers captured Jamie, 71, in a wheelchair at a medical center in Kentwood, Louisiana, where he resides. Jamie had his right leg amputated in December 2023 due to a bacterial infection.
Before he visited the medical center, Jamie and his caretaker were seen at two drive-through pharmacies and a Dollar General. Kentwood used to boast of being the birthplace of Britney, born in McComb, Mississippi.
Jamie faced harsh criticism for his role in his daughter’s conservatorship. In December 2022, Jamie defended himself in a statement, saying, “I don’t know if she’d be alive [without it].” Jamie added that he stopped Britney from “going further down the hole than she had been.”
