On Saturday, Britney Spears announced in an Instagram post that she and her fiancé Sam Asghari are no longer expecting after suffering a miscarriage. In the caption of her post, she wrote, “We are grateful for what we have in the process of expanding our beautiful family. Thank you for your support.”

In the image itself, she wrote, “It is without deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however, we were overly excited to share the good news. Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment.”

The message was signed by “Sam and Britney.”

In June 2021, Spears said she could not have another baby because of the controversial conservatorship she was under at the time, testifying that she was being prevented from having an IUD removed. Later that year, a judge ended Spears’ conservatorship after over a decade following a wave of support for the pop star.

The pregnancy announcement was first made about five weeks ago, with Spears sharing her discovery after experiencing weight fluctuations. She claimed she’d been joking with her fiancé about having a “food baby” when she decided to take a pregnancy test.

Spears currently has two sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, 16-year-old Sean, and 15-year-old Jayden. During the trial over her conservatorship, Spears alleged she was being kept from being able to conceive and has wanted to have a child with her long-time partner. Part of her fight for freedom from her conservatorship was to be able to continue expanding her family with Asghari.
