Sarah Palin announced that her daughter Bristol Palin‘s wedding to Dakota Meyer had been canceled Monday amid media reports that he was married previously to another woman.
Sarah Palin took to Facebook to reveal that the wedding, planned for this coming weekend, would not go on as planned. Though there won’t be any exchanging of vows, Sarah Palin reassured family and friends that a get together would still take place with both families attending.
“Bristol and Dakota couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding. They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held,” the former Alaska governor wrote. “Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway – and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at “the old Kentucky home” on May 23 to celebrate life, in general! Family members and close friends know they are welcome to share a great bar-b-que on the farm that day.”

In her Facebook post, Sarah Palin also included a message from her daughter, who wished to set the record straight about the reports about Meyer’s former wife. According to Bristol, they were both aware of each other’s past relationships, thus nixing the suggestion that the previous marriage was a secret.
“Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about ‘secret wives,’ Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers,” Bristol’s message read. “As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency.”
Bristol, 24, and Meyer, 26, announced their engagement back in March. It’s unknown if Bristol, mother to 6-year-old Tripp with ex-fiancé Levi Johnston, and former Marine Meyer have broken off their engagement or if they plan to wed on a future date.
