Booker T. Jones Pays Homage To Prince With ‘Purple Rain’ Performance

In Memphis over the weekend, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Booker T. Jones performed Prince’s “Purple Rain” in homage to the late performer.

BOOKER T. JONES PLAYS “PURPLE RAIN”

James took up the guitar, straying from his usual Hammond organ, for his performance of the 1984 hit song, the Washington Post reports. Prince passed away in April.

Jones used to be the frontman for Booker T. and the M.G.s, and spent the evening playing hits in front of about 350 guests at the Halloran Centre on Saturday. Their hits include “Green Onions” and “Soul Limbo.”

Jones and his band also played some rhythm and blues classics from Stax Records, including “Knock on Wood” and “Try a Little Tenderness.”

Jones has incorporated “Purple Rain” into his concert repertoire for the past few months in honor of Prince. He is among a long list of performers and celebrities who have paid homage to Prince since his death.
