Bonnie Tyler and electronic group DNCE sand her hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” on board a cruise ship during the actual solar eclipse on Aug. 21.
As a cruise ship sailed between Florida and the Caribbean, Tyler and Joe Jonas of DNCE belted out the hit. Footage of the performance has emerged online. The performance was able to coincide with the total eclipse, as the ship was reportedly positioned in the path of totality. The eclipse, which was visible from coast to coast in the U.S., was the first to take place in this country since 1979.
Tyler’s record sales skyrocket every time a solar or lunar eclipse occurs. This week, digital downloads of the song rose by 503% in the week ending on Aug. 20, with 12,000 downloads in the U.S. alone. The week prior, it was only downloaded 2,000 times. In fact, the 1983 hit unseated Luis Fonsi and Justin Bieber‘s “Despacito” from its number one spot on the iTunes top 10 list.
“Fabulous for me to work with this young, gorgeous band,” Tyler said of DNCE after the performance. “They did a fabulous version… It was really awesome.”
“With the eclipse happening, performing this iconic song with a legend, our new friend Bonnie, it was a dream come true,” added Jonas.
