Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus‘ son, Trace Cyrus, has written an emotional open letter to his father to address his concerns.

Cyrus and his now ex-wife, Tish Cyrus, adopted Trace, now 35, in 1993 after getting married earlier that year.

On Jan. 22, Trace posted the exceedingly personal letter addressed to Cyrus via Instagram. He opens the statement, “Since my earliest memories, all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you.”

Trace continued, “The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Sadly, the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down, and it’s become obvious to everyone but you.”

Trace admitted that although Cyrus might be angry at him for posting such a personal statement on social media, he “really could care less at this point.”

Noting that Cyrus’ other children had the same concerns, Trace explained, “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew and hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy, Dad, and everyone is noticing it.”

He continued, “Just like I showed up for you at Mamaw’s funeral when you didn’t expect me to, I’m still here. As I write this with tears in my eyes, I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon. I love you, Dad.”

Trace further revealed that he has been sober for over a year and a half and, “Guess what? I feel amazing. I don’t know what you’re struggling with exactly, but I think I have a pretty good idea & I’d love to help you if you would open up and receive the help. You know how to reach me.”

He concluded his heartfelt message: “Till that day comes, I will continue to pray for you.”

Trace did not mention his father’s disastrous performance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, which received widespread criticism online.
