Taylor Swift opened the Billboard Music Awards with the premiere of her star-studded music video for “Bad Blood,” and continued to dominate the night, taking home 8 awards.
Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen hosted the 2015 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 17, but the show was all about T-Swift. Nominated for 14 awards, Swift came into the show as the most nominated artist and took home eight awards total – the greatest of any artist in one night in the history of the Billboard Music Awards.
Iggy Azalea was another big winner, winning three awards. Azalea beat out herself and Big Sean, Nicki Minaj and Bobby Shmurda to take home the award for Top Rap Song. The Australian rapper also took home awards for Top Streaming Artist and Top Rap Artist. She also performed her new summer jam, “Pretty Girls,” with Britney Spears.
One Direction made their first red carpet appearance since losing Zayn Malik, and won two awards – Top Touring Artist and Top Duo/Group. The remaining four members of the band, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, thanked their former member. “This one’s for the fans, but there’s one more person we have to share this with and that’s our brother Zayn,” Payne said while accepting one of the awards.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a music awards show without more than a few performances. Mariah Carey performed “Vision of Love” and her new single “Infinity,” Van Halen opened the show with their 1984 hit “Panama” and Nick Jonas gave an electric performance of his hit “Jealous.”
