Beyoncé debuted a new haircut on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing she’d traded in her long flowing locks for a blonde pixie cut. Beyoncé didn’t provide any captions to the trio of pictures that showed off the new do. However, some speculate that the singer may have opted for the cropped look to avoid another fan incident, like the one that recently happened on stage.
Kim Kimble, L.A. Hair star and Beyoncé’s longtime stylist, was not prepared for her No. 1 client’s dramatic transformation. “I got a little teary eyed!” Kimble told People. “I’ve been working for her so long, she has this beautiful long hair and it’s hard to grow hair out. I feel like it’s my hair, I work so much with her. I feel a little emotional but excited for her too. Maybe I’ll cut my hair off now. Short hair, don’t care!” Kimble had planned hairstyles for Beyoncé for an upcoming photo shoot – for long hair. For Kimble, Beyoncé’s new cut means back to the drawing board.
Beyoncé’s hair colorist Rita Hazan was likewise stunned to check out the superstar’s new look. "I was shocked,” Hazan admitted to Us Weekly. Yet, she also offered an explanation for the hair makeover, adding, “I think she was just feeling empowered, like a strong woman, and she said she's been feeling it for a long time. She didn't want to hide behind her hair in real life."
The pictures of the cropped coif were posted just two days after Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter Tour wrapped. Perhaps the "Love On Top" singer’s grueling tour schedule, where she gave her all on stage with 5lbs worth of extensions, finally gave her the push to sport a more natural low-maintenance look.
