Today was the day thousands of Beyonce fans have been waiting for: the release of her long-awaited Netflix documentary, Homecoming: A Film By Beyonce. And Queen Bey had more surprises up her sleeve – the same time that Homecoming was released on to the streaming service, a live album featuring the 40 songs played in the film was released on Tidal, her husband Jay-Z‘s streaming platform.

Homecoming the movie documents Beyonce’s 2018 Coachella performance, which lasted a landmark two hours and was lauded as her triumphant comeback. The documentary includes behind-the-scenes footage, dance numbers from the show, and appearances by black intellectuals who discuss black culture and Beyonce’s contributions to the world of black music. The film was written, directed and produced by Beyonce, and first premiered at a number of historic black colleges, including Spelman and Morehouse Colleges in Atlanta and Howard University in Washington, D.C.

The live album, which came as a surprise even to the biggest members of the Beyhive, is also a tribute to Beyonce’s 20-plus years as a music icon, featuring songs from her long-spanning career. The 23-time Grammy winner’s last album was 2018’s award-winning Everything Is Love.
