Beyoncé Makes History As First Black Woman To Headline Coachella

Beyoncé made history as the first African American woman headliner at Coachella.

As she opened her first set in front of massive crowd and she asked, “Y’all ready Coachella?” Beyonce became the first women and African American woman to headline the Indio, California, music festival. Other recent headliners have included Eminem and the Weeknd.

Before the performance she went on Facebook and said how thrilled she was to see her fans. “I am so excited to see the BeyHive tonight at Coachella. We have been working hard and have a special show planned for you so please be safe and stay hydrated,” she wrote on Facebook. “We need your energy!”

The star was originally scheduled to headline the festival last year but had to cancel due to doctor’s orders because she was pregnant with the twins, Rumi and Sir CarterLady Gaga stepped in as her replacement.

Before singing “Run the World (Girls),” she told to the crowd, “Coachella, thank you for allowing me to be the first black woman to headline.”

Beyoncé used this chance to have a Destiny’s Child reunion. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined her on the Coachella stage for their top charting songs “Say My Name,” “Soldier” and “Lose My Breath.”

Her husband Jay-Z also joined her on stage. The couple will go on a joint tour this summer.
