June 14, 2018 marks one year since the devastating Grenfell Tower fire, which killed 72 people and left hundreds without housing. The 24-story public housing building was located in North Kensington, West London.
On June 15, during the first of their two London stadium concerts, Jay Z and Beyoncé tributed the song “Forever Young” to the victims of the fire.
“I’d like to dedicate this song to the friends and families of the victims of Grenfell,” Beyoncé said.
The On The Run II performing pair also donned green lapels shaped as hearts, sent to them by campaigners from Justice 4 Grenfell.
The community-led organization tweeted their thanks to the famous power couple:
The day before, about 5,000 people participated in a silent march of remembrance in London, according to Independent.
Fans expressed their appreciation of the gesture on Twitter:
