Actress and comedian Betty White celebrated her 97th birthday on Thursday, and despite her advanced age, she appears to be living life to the fullest.
White — who was honored at the Emmy Awards in September — is known for her roles in television series like The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Hot In Cleveland and boasts the longest TV career for a female actress.
“Thank you. I’m just gonna quit while I’m ahead,” White joked at the Emmys. “Little did I dream that I would be here and it’s incredible that I’m still in this business, that you’re putting up with me. I’m thanking you. It’s incredible that you can stay with a career this long and still have people put up with you. I wish they did that at home!”

According to Us Weekly, a representative for White said she is “waiting for Robert Redford to call!”
Redford, 82, announced last year that he was retiring from Hollywood after a 60-year career in the industry. He last appeared in the comedy-drama film The Old Man & the Gun, which was released in September and for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.

White offered nine tips on how to live a better and healthier life on her birthday. Here they are:
Attitude and outlook count the most
“It’s your outlook on life that counts,” White stated. “If you take yourself lightly and don’t take yourself too seriously, pretty soon you can find the humor in our everyday lives.”
Don’t take things for granted
White says she believes many people “have a tendency to complain rather than celebrating who we are.”
Negativity can destroy us
“Anger tears me up inside… My own or anyone else’s,” White said.
Find a passion
White thinks hobbies and passions are important, and she has stood by this belief. As a child, she reportedly dreamed of being a zookeeper, and to this today she contributes to the Los Angeles Zoo.
Women are worth more than their bodies
White has long advocated for women to be complimented not simply for their looks but also for their personalities.
Age is just a number
In a point related to an earlier life tip, White says mental outlook plays a larger role than people realize when it comes to aging.
“Don’t try to be young. Just open your mind,” White said. “Stay interested in stuff. There are so many things I won’t live long enough to find out about, but I’m still curious about them.”
Have no shame in eating junk food every now and then
White firmly believes it’s ok to enjoy cheat days where you don’t always necessarily eat the healthiest foods.
Men should be gentlemen, always and everwhere
White has also pushed for chivalry to stay alive, a point that is especially relevant in the post-“Me too” era.
Have a sense of humor
It’s important to laugh as much as you can in life, says White.
“I like bawdy humor,” White said, adding, “I love bawdy humor, but not dirty humor.”
