Autumn Veatch, 16, and her step-grandparents were on a flight from Kalispell, Mont., to Lynden, Wash., Saturday when it entered a cloud bank, causing for the plane to crash and catch on fire. Veatch survived the horrific plane crash, but her step-grandparents, Leland, 62, and Sharon Bowman, 63, who were piloting the Beechcraft A-35, are yet to be found in the remains.

The brave teenager escaped the burning wreckage of the plane in the Washington State campsite, where she managed to survive for two days by sleeping on a sand bar, and drinking small amounts of water from the river. Veatch followed a river to a trail, which lead her to a highway where she was rescued by two motorist and driven to a local store in Mazama, a small town in north-central Washington, where she made the 911 call.

“We crashed, and I was the only one that made it out,” she told a 911 operator, after she was rescued by the two men on Monday afternoon. “I have a lot of burns on my hands, and I’m kind of covered in bruises and scratches and stuff.”

Veatch was treated at Three Rivers hospital in Brewster, where she was found in stable condition but was sent home Tuesday night with minor cuts, burns, and dehydration from hiking with little access to clean water.

KING 5 reporter, Heather Graf, Tweeted some updates on Veatch’s condition:
