Autopsy Report States Rapper Young Dolph Sustained 22 Gunshot Wounds
The rapper Young Dolph, who was shot and killed in November 2021, was shot over a dozen times according to recently released documents from the West Tennessee Office of the Medical Examiner.
Dolph, whose full name was Adolph Thornton Jr, was shot in front of Makeda’s Cookies while picking some up for his mother in Memphis. He was 36, and according to the report he suffered over 20 wounds in total, accounting for when they entered and exited his body. He died at the scene after being shot in the head, neck, torso and arms.
Police have charged a few suspects and named others as persons of interest in the murder case. Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, attempted murder and theft in relation to the shooting of Thornton, and allegedly stealing the getaway car used in the week prior. Johnson and Smith will be next appearing in court on March 24.
Two more suspects are considered persons of interest in this case, but their alleged roles are currently unknown. Police arrested Devin Burns in late February and charged him with counts of aggravated assault and property theft not related to Thornton’s death. A fourth man, Joshua Taylor, is also suspected to have a connection to the shooting and is still being pursued by the Memphis Police Department.
Thornton had released several hugely successful projects and was one of the most popular new rappers coming out of Memphis. He had moved back with his parents to Tennessee during the Covid-19 pandemic and went into a state of semi-retirement where he occasionally released singles but was more focused on being with his family. He had stepped back in the limelight with the album Rich Slave in August of 2020 and was releasing collaboration tapes in 2021 before his death.
Thornton was also known for his involvement in the community, where he donated turkeys to local families for Thanksgiving dinners, donated $25,000 to his alma mater Hamilton High School, and gave motivational speeches to students there.
