Model Ashley Graham has just released her latest lingerie collection for Canadian brand Addition Elle and is speaking up about her thoughts on the fashion industry and its obsession with body perfection.
The collection, titled “Black Orchid,” which Graham describes as “supportively sexy,” features a number of racy pieces and marks the first time one of Graham’s collections is available in the UK.
Graham, who has appeared in the pages of Vogue and Sports Illustrated, spoke in depth to the about the collection and opened up about her insecurities. “I have hated by body and I still have my days of feeling like the world is gonna end because I can feel a roll hanging over my jeans,” she divulged to Huffington Post, “but at the end of the day we’re all in it together.”
The curvy model first decided to start a lingerie line because she felt she had limited options when shopping for sexy underwear, often finding that more fashion forward styles weren’t sold in bigger sizes. The collection is her seventh and you can sample some of the styles available below.
Despite acknowledging that the fashion industry is getting better at catering to bigger sizes Graham still believes it can do more. “I think a lot of plus size companies also don’t fit their clothes properly. A lot of them have one fit model,” she said. “I think having more cut options would be a good idea for plus size companies, I’d also love to see more high quality in plus size fashion.”
Graham has become an advocate for challenging the fashion industry’s restrictive beauty ideals and is speaking out about body-shaming. “Women are finally wanting to talk about body shaming, they’re finally wanting to fight back and they want people to look up to in the media,” she said, concluding that she was “happy to be that woman because I am that woman.”
