Tim Lambesis, the As I Lay Dying frontman, was sentenced to six years in prison for plotting to have his wife murdered on Friday at a San Diego Superior Courtroom.
Lambesis, 33, had pleaded guilty in February to conspiring to have his wife, Meggan Lambesis, killed by a hired gun. He claimed that he’d been angry that his wife had restricted his time with their three children during their separation and about the amount of money she stood to receive in their divorce.
The San Diego Christian metal band frontman had apparently voiced his desire to have his wife killed to a man at his gym. When introduced to an undercover cop, he gave him $1,000 payment to have his wife killed along with pictures of her and the security codes for her home, according to the Guardian.
“Information came to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department on May 2 that Lambesis was soliciting another individual to kill his estranged wife, who resides in Encinitas,” the San Diego Sheriff’s department said last May in a statement titled “Murder for Hire Plot Foiled.” “The investigation culminated this afternoon [Tuesday], when Lambesis solicited an undercover detective to kill his wife. He was then arrested, transported to the Encinitas Station, and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.”
Meggan Lambesis, who’d be married to the singer for 8 years, filed for divorce in 2012, citing multiple affairs and his own admission that he no longer loved her nor had faith in God. Following their split, Lambesis, who’d become consumed with bodybuilding, began taking steroids, which his lawyer cited as a reason for the mental state his client had when he sought a hitman for his wife.
Upon learning of the sentencing verdict, Meggan Lambesis’ father expressed his concern that the rocker could make attempts from jail to have his daughter killed. "We know that prison is a great alibi for someone who wants to complete the deed,” he told the judge, who agreed to grant Meggan and the three children 10 years of protection.
