Following last week’s rough and heartbreaking episode of Arrow, with the hero breaking up with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Wednesday night’s episode was full of puns and humor with an attack from killer bees as the season heads towards its finale.

‘ARROW’ Season 4 Episode 17 RECAP

This week’s villain is Brie Larvon (The Walking Dead’s Emily Kinney) who is best known as a hacker from Season 1 of The Flash. She kicks off the episode with hacking out of prison to confront Felicity at a Palmer Technologies board meeting. Brie is there to apprehend the spinal implant prototype that’s currently sitting at the base of Felicity’s spine and that Palmer Technologies is trying to monetize.

To secure a meeting with Felicity, Brie decides her best bet is to surround the entire building with robotic bees that trap all the employees inside. Brie plays up to her weapon of choice with a black and yellow outfit and, of course, her name. Thea (Willa Hollland) and Donna Smoak happen to be with Felicity in her office when Brie’s bees attack, so they devise a plan of attack to get out their entrapment. Their best bet is Curtis (Echo Vellum) who was sent home sick and is currently not trapped. Curtis uses his tracking device to locate the employees, but ends up stumbling into Arrow’s top secret elevator and eventually into their top secret meeting place.

Curtis is thrilled to discover their top secrets and works to get a message to Felicity that the Green Arrow is on his way to help. Meanwhile, Felicity and her team are trying to desperately escape but can’t due to Brie’s bees forming a “Bee-man” that shoots none other than bees which makes it impossible for Arrow to rescue anyone. To make matters worse, one of the bees gets inside Oliver (Stephen Amell).

The bee is reeking havoc on the hero as Team Arrow tries to figure out how to get the bee out. The team learns the bee is multiplying inside Oliver. To deactivate them, Curtis uses Laurel’s Canary Cry to disrupt their frequency and it works. It seems Laurel is pleased with her ability to save Oliver and sparks ensue between the two. As Oliver recovers from the hoard of bees, Felicity and Thea help the board of directors and employees escape Palmer Tech with the use of Curtis’s T-Sphere technology.

But before everyone is safe and sound, Brie holds Thea at gunpoint and demands the blueprints to the spinal implant devise. Turns out, Brie has a life-threatening tumor in her spine. She wants the device to save her from life in a wheelchair. Despite Thea’s protests, Felicity turns the blueprints over to Brie. But once again, Brie comes back after she finds out that Felicity is the reason she was in jail for hacking and sends her bees on her. The Green Arrow is able to deactivate the “Bee-Man” which ultimately causes them to fly apart. A fight ensues and Thea and Arrow were knocked unconscious.

Now, Felicity is left to defend herself against the bees and decides to zap the bees with the live wire from a broken lamp. The Green Arrow regains consciousness, only to be shot by Brie with a gun. Instantly after, Curtis figures out how to reprogram the bees to attack Brie. Once the dust has settled, the team focuses on how to protect their world.

The episode ends with a glimpse into Damien Darhk’s prison life. Malcolm Merlyn comes to visit him and tells Darhk that H.I.V.E.’s moving on with the Genesis plan without Dark.
