Two women who previously dated the Call me By Your Name star recently spoke out about what it was like dating Armie Hammer and why they left him.
Design student, Paige Lorenze, told Vanity Fair that she broke things off with him in September because he “started making rules for me of things I could and couldn’t do.”
“He told me that I couldn’t have anyone else in my bed,” Lorenze said. “And then I just started to feel really unsafe and really sick to my stomach about things. I was also emotionally dependent on him.”
Lorenze said she broke up with him over text because of his unexpected behavior, calling him a “scary person.”
Lorenze previously talked about her relationship with Hammer with E! News in January, describing their “polyamorous open relationship.”
She said Hammer was very charming and captivating when they first starting talking and their relationship eventually moved into BDSM activities. She said she ultimately left him though because she was constantly anxious and always felt sick to her stomach. She said everything she did with Hammer was consensual, but she said she wanted women in similar situation to know they aren’t alone.
Another ex of Hammer’s, Courtney Vucekovich, told Vanity Fair that the pair started dating in June 2020 after bonding over past trauma. She said he made her feel like “the only girl in the world.”
Vucekovich recounted a sexual encounter with Hammer where he convinced her to participate in a “a bondage scenario” that she was not comfortable with. She said she “eventually consented and really regretted doing so.”
The couple broke up in September. Vucekovich said she checked herself into a treatment program for trauma shortly after.
Hammer’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement that all interactions between Hammer and his former partners were consensual.
“They were fully discussed, agreed upon in advance with his partners, and mutually participatory. The stories perpetuated on social media were designed to be salacious in an effort to harm Mr. Hammer, but that does not make them true,” said Brettler.
Lorenze and Vucekovich’s interviews come about a month after Hammer’s publicist and talent agency dropped him. In January, a Twitter user shared screenshots of DM’s allegedly from Hammer describing his cannibalistic desires. The tweets have since been taken down.
After that, Hammer stepped down from the movie Shotgun Wedding, starring Jennifer Lopez, and has since dropped out of a few other projects.
“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” Hammer said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.”
Hammer is also in the middle of a divorce from his estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers. The couple got married in 2010 and have two children together. Chambers filed for divorce from Hammer in July 2020.
Chambers posted a statement on Instagram in February about the controversy surrounding her ex.
“I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated. Heartbreak aside, I am listening, and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters,” Chambers wrote. “I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know. I support any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal.”
