Ariel Winter Continues Her Fight Against Trolls Online With New Twitter Rant

Modern Family star Ariel Winter continued her long-fought battle against internet trolls in a “rant” posted on Twitter in which she urges others to “leave young women alone.” The actress wrote the post after several online commenters negatively remarked on an outfit she wore in a previous post.

“Pretty annoyed about the focus on the fact that I wear shorts, and the commentary that I’m ‘squeezing’ into them or the idea that it’s not ok for me to wear shorts,” Winter’s post began.

“It’s SUMMER. Get over it.”

The photo Winter and her trolls were referencing was one in which the actress appears with a group of friends wearing lingerie-style top with black shorts.

“THE ONLY ONE AGAIN WITH BARELY ANY CLOTHES,” one commenter wrote in response to the image.

Winter, who has bore an exorbitant amount of online criticism for her body and her clothing, often responds to body-shamers, as she did late last week.

The “rant,” as she called it, continued. “I’m not a whore because I wear shorts and tank tops. I’m a normal girl. Also, I’m not ‘squeezing’ into anything. My shorts fit me and everything I’m doing is just fine.”

Winter also asked that people stop commenting on women’s appearances in general.

“Please leave young women alone. We’re just living our lives. It’s really troubling that we even have to deal with this kind of stuff nowadays. Please stop criticizing everything everyone does.”

In addition to calling out the body-shamers, Winter has expressed her distaste with the fact that many people, including both commenters and news organizations, focus on her, and other women’s appearances, more than they do the work that those very same women are doing.
