An Apple employee was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the tech company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., Wednesday.
Early Wednesday morning, a man who worked at Apple was found dead in an apparent suicide inside a conference room. When police arrived at the scene, they found the male with a fatal head wound and a gun next to his body.
“They found one individual male down and that he was deceased,” Sgt. Andrea Urena of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said, according to the San Jose Mercury News. “Through further investigation they determined that there were no other individuals involved and they believe it was an isolated incident, and that there’s nobody else on the campus or in the public that is at risk.”
No foul play is suspected, and authorities are not seeking a possible suspect. However, an autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Apple released a statement Thursday to address the death of the employee, whose name has thus far been withheld from the public.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young and talented coworker,” the statement from Apple read. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the many people he worked with here at Apple. We are working to support them however we can in this difficult time.”
