Anna Gunn, best known for playing Skylar White on Breaking Bad, is joining the cast of crime drama series Shades of Blue.
Gunn has been tapped to join Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta on the NBC series, reported Entertainment Weekly. She will play a rising city Councilwoman, who is laying the groundwork to run for mayor of the city. Prior to launching her political career, she had worked with Harlee (Lopez) in her law-bending ruses under the guidance of Lt. Wozniak (Liotta), and eventually was named Captain in the NYPD.
“The details of her meteoric rise and her much darker and Machiavellian side comes to the fore,” according to a description of Gunn’s character by NBC.
Gunn will make her debut on Shades of Blue in the season 2 premiere, and will go on to appear in eight of the season’s 13 episodes. Shades of Blue, which commenced production on its sophomore season in New York City this week, will return mid-season.
In addition to Breaking Bad, Gunn’s resume includes appearances on Portlandia, Criminal Minds and The Mindy Project. She also starred in miniseries Gracepoint. Later this year, Gunn will appear on the big screen alongside Tom Hanks in Sully.
