Anna Delvey, the imposter royal infamous for tricking socialites into thinking she was a German heiress, has served Walmart with a cease-and-desist letter.

As deeply detailed in Netflix’s series Inventing Anna, Delvey scammed individuals and businesses out of over $250,000 between 2013 and 2017. She was arrested in 2017, convicted in 2019 on multiple counts of larceny and theft, and sentenced to four to 12 years in prison. Delvey was released in February 2021 for good behavior but taken back into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying her visa. She was held in ICE custody for a year before being released again.

Delvey’s cease and desist claims that she trademarked her criminal pseudonym before she left prison.

Per the filing, Delvey’s lawyer, Duncan Levin, explained Delvey’s distress, “A search of Walmart’s website and app reveals an alarming minimum of 53 listings advertising apparel and related items that unlawfully display the “Anna Delvey” Mark. These include ‘ANNA DELVEY Sweatshirt,’ ‘Anna Delvey Foundation Hoodie,’ ‘Funny Anna Delvey T-Shirt,’ and ‘Fashion Sweater For Her with Anna Delvey Sorokin’.“ He continued, “Ms. Sorokin demands that Walmart immediately cease and desist from all sales, distribution, and advertising of any items bearing the ‘Anna Delvey’ Mark.”

Levin wrote that such “infringement” was damaging to Delvey’s “brand and reputation.”

Walmart’s recent clothing line, which clearly features Delvey’s face and name, promotes unfavorable mindsets of Delvey, such as a sweater that shows her last name crossed out and replaced by her birth name Sorokin. Other clothing showed pictures from Delvey’s 2019 trial in Manhattan.

In September 2022, approximately a month before her release from prison and following house arrest, Delvey registered her name as a trademark to Anna Delvey LLC. The trademark was approved in July of this year.

Levin gave the company 24 hours to remove the merchandise from their floor and site.

Delvey has reportedly set up a fashion PR firm called the Outlaw Agency, in partnership with Kelly Cutrone.
