Andrew Lincoln To Star In Multiple ‘Walking Dead’ Movies For AMC

Andrew Lincoln has been known for playing lead character Rick Grimes in AMC’s post-apocalyptic zombie horror series The Walking Dead since 2010, but he is not done with that character just yet.

On Monday, it was announced the 45-year-old British actor has signed on to play Rick in several feature films based on the popular series. According to Variety, the first of the movies — which will be developed by AMC Studios Original Films and will be written by Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple — is scheduled to start production as early as 2019.

Last week’s Walking Dead episode saw Rick severely injured, and was meant to be a sort of farewell episode for the character.

“We have a lot on the horizon – starting with a new epic featuring one of the greatest leading actors in television history and one of the best people I’ve ever met,” said Gimple of the new Walking Dead projects. “These films are going to be big evolutions of what we’ve been doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features. We’re starting with the first part of the continuing story of Rick Grimes, and there is much more on the way, featuring yet-unseen worlds of ‘The Walking Dead’ and faces from the show’s past, as well as new characters we hope to become favorites, told by TWD veterans and emerging voices. We want to break new ground with different, distinct stories, all part of the same world that’s captured our imagination for nearly a decade of the Dead.”

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
