Caldiero is the first athlete to win the American Ninja Warrior grand prize of $1 million, completing both the Area 51 and Psycho Chain obstacles.

E! News caught up with Caldiero to ask him about his win, and how it will change his life.

“I mean, it’s amazing to think about, like, I’ve never made or lived off more than $10,000 a year, so to all of a sudden… it’s like, I can’t even imagine what it’s gonna be like, and what it’s like right now, it’s just… The future is unknown. I’m still in awe.”

Caldiero is a professional rock climber, as is his girlfriend and fellow competitor, Laura Kisana. When asked if rock climbers might have an advantage in this sort of competition Caldiero replied, “Most definitely. Especially in the later stages. If we can get to the stuff that is revolved around our upper body, it’s like, game over. We’re so used to being in this environment where we’re constantly having to adapt to everything that comes our way. For me, that’s really important on the course, we don’t know what’s coming at us at any point in time, and we need to be able to adapt and just totally dominate it.”

American Ninja Warrior will begin filming season eight in Spring 2016.

Esquire Network will re-air the finale at 7 pm on Sept. 15.
