American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp Hired Priest To Perform Exorcism Following Staff Resignations
Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union and CPAC, reportedly hired a Catholic priest to perform an exorcism at CPAC’s offices last year.
According to Daily Beast senior political report Roger Sollenberger, Schlapp’s idea was sparked by the resignation of staffers who were dissatisfied with their pay. In turn, the hired priest “sprinkled holy water around the CPAC premises and blessed all the staff, regardless of their faith.”
He also “placed a medallion above doors in the offices” in an effort to “ward off evil spirits. The medallions are reportedly still present in CPAC’s offices.
Following the report on the exorcism, Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes Schlapp, accused the outlet of colluding with the devil.
“The Daily Beast is Satan’s publication to persecute Christians and their families,” wrote Mercedes Schlapp on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Americans are dying of fentanyl, children are being sex trafficked, and violent crimes are happening in our cities while Satan’s publication is writing about exorcisms. Daily Beast is a joke.”
In January, Schlapp was accused of sexually harassing a Republican staffer, who is now suing the chairman. According to reports from last week, the staffer recently rejected a six-figure settlement offer.
