Alex Rodriguez Could Face Lifetime Ban From MLB, Report

Alex Rodriguez, the New York Yankees star, could potentially face a lifetime ban from the MLB as punishment for his connection with the Biogenesis investigation. He could also face a lesser punishment of a 100-game suspension.

Rodriguez’s punishment will follow that of former National League MVP Ryan Braun, who received a 65-game suspension for his involvement in the anti-aging clinic. “They have an overwhelming amount of evidence on [Rodriguez] showing multiple years of usage,” according to Jim Axelrod of CBS News. “He’s met with Major League Baseball. He’s seen the evidence. He is staring down a penalty much, much harsher than Braun’s. It could be years… or even a lifetime suspension.”

Even if he doesn’t have a lifetime ban, the punishment promises to be harsh on the standout third-baseman. It stands to be a 100-game suspicion at minimum, reported USA Today. Why will his punishment be worse? There’s a lot more evidence that links A-Rod to Biogenesis, the South Floria anti-aging clinic.

Rodriquez was initially scheduled to return to the Yankees earlier this week after being out due to an ongoing recovery from hip surgery. However, the athlete recently suffered a strained quadriceps, and is now on the disabled list.

Unlike Braun, Rodriquez is unwilling to negotiate a settlement with the MLB. When the official punishment is handed down, he plans to appeal it.
