Alabama Public Televisions Refuses To Air An Episode Of ‘Arthur’ Depicting A Gay Marriage
Alabama Public Television (ATP) has refused to air the first episode of the comic Arthur‘s 22 season titled “Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone” because it depicts a marriage between two male characters. Instead, on May 13, Alabama residents saw a rerun of a different episode. This decision was made back in April when Mike Mckenzie, the director of programming at ATP, was notified about the content of the episode.
Mckenzie told AL.com that ATP has no plans to air the episode at all. In an email, he wrote, “Parents have trusted Alabama Public Television for more than 50 years to provide children’s programs that entertain, educate and inspire.”

This was not the first time that ATP pulled out an episode of Arthur from airing. In 2005, Arthur’s friend Buster, meets a girl who has two mothers. They refused to air that episode as well. ATP’s director at the time, Allan Pizzato, told AL.com, “Our feelings is that we basically have a trust with parents about our programming. This program doesn’t fit into that.”
