Tom Hanks, who attended the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his new film, Asteroid City, was captured getting into a heated “altercation” with a worker at the prestigious film festival.

The 66-year-old actor, whose universal acclaim has earned him the title of “America’s Dad,” attended the red carpet on Tuesday with actress wife Rita Wilson, who also stars in the upcoming film.

Hanks was seen looking uncharacteristically angry as he pointed a finger at PR manager Vincent Chapalain. The seemingly heated exchange created quite a stir in the media when both Wilson and Chapalain decided to address the interaction and explain the truth behind it.

“‘This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?’” Wilson wrote in an Instagram Story featuring an article that alleged Hanks to have had a “terse interaction” with Chapalain. “But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try. We had a great time! Go see Asteroid City!”

The PR manager also broke his silence on the interaction by responding to a Twitter user asking whether the actors had mistaken him for security. “They just asked me if they should go back to the start of the mat with the rest of the film crew (I’m not security) wink,” Chapalain tweeted.

Hanks attended the festival along with director Wes Anderson and fellow actors Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Adrien Brody, and many more of the star-studded cast. Asteroid City is set to release in theatres on June 23.
