The Republican National Committee (RNC) is currently in the process of hiring new staff and reports have emerged regarding a specific question asked during interviews: “Was the 2020 election stolen?”

Applicants who had interviews with the RNC revealed that former President Donald Trump‘s loyalist, new RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and co-chair Lara Trump, have inquired about the viewpoints of potential employees who had worked in crucial states in the 2020 election. These inquiries were made regarding their perspective on the outcome of the last presidential election.

When Whatley started at the RNC earlier this month, he initiated a purge of employees, which was described as a “bloodbath,” leaving many jobs vacant.

In one interview, a prospective employee recounted being asked the question, “Was the 2020 election stolen?” while in the presence of two top Trump advisers.

The inclusion of this question has surprised and unsettled some candidates, who interpreted it as a test of their loyalty to Trump and found it to be an uncomfortable query to answer for a job interview. The interviews have been conducted by a group of senior Trump advisers within the RNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., in recent days.

Although the questions were presented in an “open-ended” manner, a former RNC employee mentioned that stating the election was not stolen might affect the chances of being hired.

RNC spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said in a statement that candidates who had worked in battleground states or were currently in states “where fraud allegations were prevalent were asked about their relevant work experience. The RNC seeks experienced staff members who possess informed perspectives on the dynamics of winning and losing elections, along with real-world experience-based opinions about the intricacies of the electoral process.”

The election of Trump’s daughter-in-law as RNC co-chair has sparked cries of nepotism from critics.

The former president’s false allegations of a “rigged” election were rejected by courts across the country due to a lack of evidence. Trump now faces criminal charges in Washington, D.C., for his effort to overturn the 2020 election. The case is on hold while waiting for the Supreme Court to hear Trump’s claim of “absolute presidential immunity.”
