After Long Struggle, Halsey Welcomes Baby, Ender, With Boyfriend Alev Aydin

Halsey welcomed her first baby, Ender Ridley Aydin, on July 14 with her boyfriend Alev Aydin after a long struggle with fertility.

The singer announced the baby’s birth via Instagram on Monday.

“Gratitude. For the most ‘rare’ and euphoric birth. Powered by love,” she captioned the post.

Halsey has shared her journey difficult journey to pregnancy. In 2016, she said that she had become pregnant in 2015 but suffered a miscarriage before a show and still performed.

“It’s the angriest performance that I’ve ever done in my life,” she said at the time. “That was the moment of my life where I thought to myself, ‘I don’t feel like a … human being anymore.’ This thing, this music, Halsey, whatever it is that I’m doing, took precedence and priority over every decision that I made regarding the entire situation from the moment I found out until the moment it went wrong. I walked offstage and went into the parking lot and just started throwing up.”

The singer noted that she got frustrated with herself over the miscarriage because she wanted “to be a mom more than I want to be a pop star, more than I want to be anything in the world.”

Halsey also revealed her battle with endometriosis and that she has undergone several “terrifying” surgeries.

In 2019, she shared that she was thinking about freezing her eggs that summer because she was worried her condition could affect her chance to conceive. The surgeries she underwent, however, were beneficial.

“I was like, ‘Wait, what did you just say? Did you just say I can have kids?’ It was like the reverse of finding out you have a terminal illness. I called my mom, crying,” she said.

During her pregnancy, Halsey revealed that she wanted to change her pronouns to she/they.

“For those asking RE: my updated IG bio, I am happy with either pronouns,” she wrote in an Instagram Story in March.

Hasley announced her decision in changing her pronouns on February because being pregnant “leveled my perception of gender entirely.”

“I’ve been thinking [a lot] about my body. [It’s] strange to watch yourself change so quickly. I thought pregnancy would give me very strong, binary feelings about ‘womanhood’ but truly it has leveled my perception of gender entirely,” she explained.

Halsey explained how her song “More” relates to her fertility struggles.

“I’ve been really open about my struggles with reproductive health, about wanting to freeze my eggs and things like that,” she wrote. “For a long time, I didn’t think that having a family was something I was going to be able to do, and it’s very, very important to me.”

“Then one day my OB-GYN tells me it’s looking like maybe I can, and I was so moved. It felt like this ascension into a different kind of womanhood,” she explained. “All of a sudden, everything is different. I’m not going to go tour myself to death because I have nothing else to do and I’m overcompensating for not being able to have this other thing that I really want. Now, I have a choice. I’ve never had a choice before.”

In 2020, Halsey told The Guardian that becoming a mother was “looking like something that’s [going to] happen for me,” and described it as “a miracle.”
