After Her Catholic-Church Scandal, Sabrina Carpenter Goes On A Date With Actor Barry Keoghan

Singer Sabrina Carpenter was seen out on a date with Irish actor Barry Keoghan just a week after her music video led to a scandal in the Catholic Church.

The Diocese of Brooklyn was horrified at the music video Carpenter filmed in a 160-year-old Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Released in time for Halloween, the bloody music video to the single “Feather” was directed by Mia Barnes and begins with interior shots of the 19th-century Catholic Church. Through the song, the camera follows Carpenter around as men harass her – and are met with instant karma.

As Carpenter sings lyrics like, “I feel so much lighter like a feather with you off my mind,” cat-callers are run over by a truck, gym bros fight each other to the death and a creepy photographer dies in an elevator shaft.

In the end, Carpenter dances around the church in a short black dress, the altar lined with pastel coffins. 

In a statement to Catholic News Agency, the diocese said that Brooklyn Bishop Robert Brennan was “appalled” that Carpenter filmed such a “provocative” video at the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn, and the parish “did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script.”

The parish notified the diocese that the production company “failed to accurately represent the video content.”

Carpenter, 24, got her first acting role in 2011 as a victim on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She had recurring roles in several other TV Shows, such as The Goodwin Games and Sofia the First. In 2016, she was cast as Maya Hunt in Girl Meets World, a spin-off of the Disney Channel series Boy Meets World.

Carpenter released her debut single, “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying,” in March 2014, co-written by Meghan Trainor. The single titled Carpenter’s debut EP of the same name, and was released in April 2014.

“Feather” comes from the deluxe version of Emails I Can’t Send, Carpenter’s fifth studio album, originally released in July 2022. Carpenter has referred to it as her first “big girl album” as she moved on from her previous pop-heavy style.
