Adult Film Star Ron Jeremy, Accused Of 34 Counts Of Sexual Assault, To Move From L.A. Jail To A Private Residence After Dementia Diagnosis

Ron Jeremy, 70, a former icon in the porn industry, was granted release to a “private residence” due to his feeble health.

This decision comes less than a year after he was officially deemed mentally unfit to stand trial for more than 30 counts of sexual assault.

Previously diagnosed with dementia and placed under a conservatorship earlier this year, Jeremy has been held at Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, as he awaited transfer to a state medical facility.

However, a judge recently approved a request to release Jeremy to a private residence, where he will receive constant medical care. The decision was made after it was determined that no medical facility was willing to accept him.

Jeremy’s attorney said that he did not fully understand what exact “private residence” his client would be released to, or if the facility would have the required security measures.

In 2020, Jeremy faced multiple charges of sexual assault, which stemmed from accusations made by four women he had encountered in bars along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, often in restrooms. Court documents detail that the Rainbow Room Bar & Grill was identified as his primary location.

The bar faces lawsuits for negligence from several women who were victims of Jeremy’s misconduct that occurred there.

After the initial allegations, numerous women came forward and contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. These new claims involved instances of rape that had taken place over several decades. The victims included individuals from the adult film industry and the sex work profession, who disclosed incidents of assault committed by Jeremy.

By 2021, Jeremy was charged with 34 criminal counts from 23 different women, the oldest allegation from 1996. The counts alleged that Jeremy attacked women while they slept with foreign objects.

In March 2022, the legal actions against Jeremy stopped when his criminal defense attorney, Stu Goldfarb, informed the judge that his client no longer recognized him. Ten months later, a judge made a formal declaration which stated that Jeremy was incompetent to stand trial.

Goldfarb said, “How do you protect the public, and equally as important, how do you protect his civil rights? He ends up in a facility that’s secure, so the public is not at risk and he doesn’t have to be housed in prison.”

Throughout the process, Jeremy has consistently denied all illegal actions. Goldfarb reiterated his client’s innocence.

The district attorney expressed his dismay to Jeremy’s accusers at how the final stage of the case went. He wrote in an email to the victims, “I feel very badly that this is where we are, but it is beyond our control. His mental and physical condition deteriorated rapidly, and we are left with no other options…I’m sorry that we couldn’t get complete justice for you in court.”
