Adele used her moment in the limelight on stage at the Brit Awards Wednesday night to voice her support for Kesha.

Adele Voices Support For Kesha At Brits

At the 2016 Brit Awards, Adele was the first to receive a trophy, winning for Best British Female Solo Artist. Her speech began as most acceptance speeches do – with a nod to the fellow nominees and thanks for those who have worked with her.

“To be so long away, and to be so warmly received, is really lovely. Thank you so much. And to all the other girls, who are nominated, thank you for letting me in your company. You are all incredible. You’re all amazing. And it’s a privilege to be alongside you,” Adele said, adding, “I’d like to take a quick second just to thank my management and my record label for embracing the fact that I’m a woman and being encouraged by it.”

Her speech didn’t end there, however, as she had one more point to make on the Brit Awards stage: “And I would also like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.”

Adele’s very public showing of support is following that of Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Zedd, Ariana Grande, Jack Antonoff, Lorde and others. Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha’s legal fund.

Last week, a judge ruled that Kesha would have to abide by her Sony contract terms despite allegations that she was psychologically abused by Sony producer Dr. Luke.
