Selena Quintanilla Pérez
Abraham Quintanilla, the brother of famous slain Tejana singer Selena, is in police custody.
He found himself on the Top 10 Most Wanted List for August in Corpus Christi, Texas, for contempt of court and non-payment of child support. Quintanilla, 53, was reportedly handcuffed on Wednesday after showing up for a court hearing. He remains in custody with no bond.
Quintanilla owes more than $130,000 in child support, according to court officials. During the hearing, he agreed to pay the money, including $87,000 in backpay and $45,000 from a previous ruling. Despite the agreement, Quintanilla was still put behind bars and will remain there for a brief period of time.
Quintanilla, also known as A.B., is a father of eight, and a musician who was previously a member of his sister’s group Selena y Los Dinos. He played bass and did backup vocals. Selena took off on her solo career in 1989, while Quintanilla formed his own group, Kumbia Kings, in the late 1990s. He earned a Grammy nomination n 1999 for Best Tejano Performance.
Selena was murdered in 1995, just as her career was booming at age 23. The leader of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar, shot her in the shoulder and Selena died from the wound. Selena’s legacy was cemented in the 1997 biopic starring Jennifer Lopez as the singer.
