ABC Orders Alec Baldwin Talk Show, Sneak-Peek To Air Post-Oscars

ABC has ordered a talk show featuring Alec Baldwin as the host, and will air a sneak-peek after the Oscars on March 4.

Sundays with Alec Baldwin will be modeled after the actor’s popular WNYC podcast in which he interviews celebrities. The network has ordered eight episodes of the hourlong talk show, the first of which will air with abridged content after the Academy Awards.

This version of the pilot is billed as a sneak-peek, and will feature in-depth talks between Baldwin and his longtime friend Jerry Seinfeld and SNL castmember Kate McKinnon. The three-some will discuss topics ranging from comedy to politics to plans for their futures.

“I’m excited about this show and grateful to ABC for taking a chance on me in what is, admittedly, a crowded field,” Baldwin said in a statement, referring to the ample talk shows over broadcast and cable networks today. “I’ve enjoyed doing my podcast for WNYC and look forward to the challenge of doing a show on camera.”

Going forward, Baldwin looks have two interviews per show, with the guests splitting time during his allotted hour. Viewers can expect to see guests in the acting and comedy fields, as well as politicians and newsmakers.

“Alec’s intellect, wit and wealth of life experience afford him a voice and perspective we haven’t seen before in this format,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey told The Hollywood Reporter. “When we shot the pilot, we knew immediately we had something special… that showcases Alec as one of today’s most compelling conversationalists and highlights the type of intimate discussions that he has captured on his podcast for years.”

Airdates after the Oscar sneak-peek have not been divulged by ABC. This is Baldwin’s second attempt at a talk show, having previously tried Up Late with Alec Baldwin in 2013.
