On Monday, ASAP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, sat in a Los Angeles courtroom for a preliminary hearing after being charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

Mayers reportedly fired a gun at his childhood friend, Terell Ephron, two years ago. The November 2021 incident reportedly caused minor injuries to Ephron’s left hand.

Ephron, who also goes by ASAP Relli, claims that Mayers asked to speak with him about a disagreement they had. During their discussion, Mayers allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at him.

In another hearing earlier this month, footage of the altercation was played. A Los Angeles detective testified that Mayers shot a gun in the video. On Monday’s hearing, more footage was shown, in which two gunshots were heard. However, Mayers’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, who also represents Donald Trump, is denying that the person in the video is him.

“I am certain Rocky will be vindicated of all of this,” Tacopina told reporters.

A trial has been scheduled for January 8, 2024. Mayers faces up to nine years in prison if he is found guilty.
